This October, I had the opportunity to join Breyer Horses on their Instagram account for a livestream painting session. With all that is happening in 2020, Breyer converted their usual painting fun days held at tack stores and Breyer dealers nationwide to an online-only event, #breyervirtualfunday. I thought this was a great opportunity for everyone, everywhere, to join in on the fun from their own homes and learn new techniques too. I created a full-length video tutorial that is now on Breyer's website and their YouTube channel, and you can click below to begin watching now! Supply List:For Prepping and Priming:
- Ultra-fine automotive sandpaper (approximately 320-400 grit) - Ultra-fine automotive sandpaper (approximately 600 grit) - Primer suited for use on plastic (the video demonstrates Duplicolor Sandable Primer) - Dish soap - Baking soda or non-bleach Comet, Ajax or Bartenders Friend (wear gloves while using) - Manual toothbrush (any kind) For Painting: - Titanium white paint in your brand of choice (or other bright white)* - Titan buff paint, or other creamy, off-white paint* - Small square or filbert brush - Small round brush - Smaller liner brush - Small jar with lid for containing paint mixture - Sealer (Testors Dullcoat is recommended) For Safety: - A mask rated for particulates (for prepping only)** - A mask rated for vapor paints (for priming) - Plastic gloves (avoid latex if allergic) Optional Handy Supplies: - Pearly or metallic white paint - White charcoal pencil - Bondo Glazing and Spot Putty - Needle sanding files - Double-sided foam mounting tape (for sticking models to objects while painting) * Artist grade paints are recommended for best results as they create the truest application of pigment, but certainly not required (Golden Fluid and Vallejo is demonstrated in the video) ** If on a budget, it is possible to skip the purchase of the particulate mask and instead use the vapor mask for both prepping, priming and painting
