By now you might have heard of NaMoPaiMo, if not at least in brief passing. But what is it?
It is a very special, international event held every February and now in it's third year. Short for National Model Painting Month, It's the brainchild of Jennifer Buxton of Braymere Custom Saddlery blog and was meant to bring together customizers around the world in the spirit of sharing and learning.
No competition. No pressure. Just amateurs and professionals coming together to share tips and see what they could paint in one month during winter, when many of us don't feel motivated to create model horses. The friendliness of the people, especially in the Facebook group, and the openness of ideas is something I rarely see in anything in life.
Plus, sometimes the model horse hobby can get a bit focused on competition; of collecting the rarest or most expensive horse, or winning the most NAN cards. It's a lot of pressure, especially for those who are starting out or those who want to stick to a budget (or have to). NaMoPaiMo takes all of that away and just focuses on what we all share in common, the love of the horse. Doesn't mater what horse you choose to paint, how you paint it, or how much you spend so long as you finish your horse in February. No pressure, just fun!
And while this is not a competition with proper awards, Jennifer does try to send something to those who finish, and to give a special something to those who go above and beyond in the spirit of sharing, by awarding a prize to those who host prepping parties, share tutorials and other means of spreading the fun and knowledge. And that's why there is a $2 suggested donation fee, to help with the massive amount of shipping.
There are still a few days left to sign up and join, so go check it out.
